Genesis Awards in Beverly Hills
This past weekend, the 24th Genesis Awards in Beverly Hills honored many women and men in the news and entertainment industry who have taken a stand to protect animals, expose cruelty, and challenge the practice of factory farming. The awards ceremony is produced by the Hollywood office of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

It was clear from the outset that The 24th Annual Genesis Awards show was going to be enjoyable when it opened with the incomparably dry-witted Jon Lovitz showing hilarious clips from TV shows “Family Guy,” “Monk” and “South Park” – this year’s nominees for the Sid Caesar Comedy Award. The energy remained high throughout the evening among the more than 700 presenters, honorees, and attendees gathered in the International Ballroom of The Beverly Hilton on Saturday, March 20.
The HSUS's annual Genesis Awards, recognizes writers, producers, directors and others in the news and entertainment who used their talents over the past year to raise awareness of the plight and suffering of animals. Nominees from print, feature films and television media received recognition and awards presented by Hollywood stars before a celebratory crowd of appreciative animal lovers and HSUS supporters.

Glamorous celebrity presenters included Bones star Emily Deschanel (whose show also took top honors in the TV dramatic series category), Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, and Entertainment Tonight’s Maria Menounos. Kristen Bell and Michael Vartan paid special tribute to dogs. Special guests included Los Angeles firefighter Joe St. Georges, who rescued Lucky from the L.A. river during the floods, and Major Brian Dennis who rescued Nubs from Iraq. St. Georges received a standing ovation from an admiring crowd.

Two-time Genesis Award winner Keely Shaye Brosnan along with husband Pierce presented the Genesis Award for Documentary Film to director Louie Psihoyos for The Cove, which also won the Academy Award® two weeks earlier.
The evening culminated with Big Love's Ginnifer Goodwin and Twilight's Booboo Stewart who presented the Outstanding Feature Film award to joint winners Hotel for Dogs and Up. Both of these charming films featured cast-off canines in central roles. In accepting the award for Up, co-director and co-writer Bob Peterson, donned his Dug the dog voice
